Selma

OMG you guys. Yes, I know I'm late to the party, but let me explain myself. I've wanted to see Selma since it hit theaters, but the hubby and I could never make it out. By the time we finally got around to going to a movie, Selma was no longer in theaters. Yep, I complained and moaned, moaned and complained. Every time the preview came on I was like "Yeah, I really want to see that movie." So my sweet hubby went out and spent our movie night Redbox pick on...you guessed it, Selma.

This was literally the best movie I have seen in a long time. It far surpassed my expectations and I felt ALL the feels. I laughed (mostly at the relationship between Dr. King and his friends) and I cried...and I cried and cried and cried. I also felt a sense of righteous indignation. This movie will upset you, I will tell you that right now. On top of an obviously upsetting subject matter, this movie was also pretty graphic. I wouldn't say it was unnecessarily so, it was pretty factual, but it does make the stomach turn.

As the title suggest this movie is focused on a very specific time period in Dr. King's life; basically his march from Selma to Washington. What I didn't anticipate was the look into Dr. King's state of mind, his personal life and his own struggles, which I thought was absolutely brilliant. Before giving too much away I just want to highly suggest that if you haven't seen this movie go out right now, literally right now, and rent it from Redbox. It will be the best $1.50 you've ever spent.
