Crimson Peak : A Review

I honestly love a good scary movie, especially on or around Halloween time! So when my husband said I could choose any movie I wanted to see for our anniversary I knew I had to capitalize on the situation. You see, my husband hates scary movies...I mean he absolutely detests them. So generally we don't watch too many. So, being the sweet wife I am, I picked a scary movie. In my defense, this movie didn't really look too scary, and it avoided most of his scary movie must-nots: NO scary religious films, NO scary children, and absolutely NO exorcisms. Okay, none of those were involved so I did take some consideration on his feelings.

I was super excited to see this film. First, I love period horror films. Second, this movie was so beautifully shot, I just knew I was going to like it for that alone. Whilst I love a good scary movie I'll admit I scare easily. This movie WAS scary, but it was more gore-y than frightening. Which isn't a bad thing if you happen to like gore, which I do. The story line was interesting, but I did feel as though it was left somewhat unfinished. You got the general gist of what was happening, but not a ton of background information. It didn't have any super surprising twists, but it was still pretty entertaining. All in all, I'd say if you like scary, gore-y movies that are visually pleasing it's worth it to go see this movie in theaters!

Let me know what your favorite scary film is! XO

  1. I am just like your hubby hon, I absolutely can not handle/stand a scary movie. I used to watch them A LOT when I was a teenager and then I would get these awful nightmares and wouldn't sleep at night even with my lights on haha. I know it might sound funny but it was no joke back then. Especially one very very very creepy incident I had (it starts to sound like a horror story time around the fire). I swore off all the scary movies for good! So yeah, now if something is labelled as a horror movie, I will not be there to watch it.
I opt for more cute and fun Halloween stuff. Charlie Brown It's The Great Pumpkin is more up my street now lol :D
Actually I watched a bit of Dark Shadows with Johnny Depp, I can handle something like that cos even if it's a bit dark, it's more comical, plus Johnny ;)
I am back to your blog woohoo and will give it a good read later on of all the posts I missed ;)

    1. They are definitely not for everyone and having scary experiences can make anyone stay away from them! I am quite sensitive to negative energy, but I love scary movies because I know they are fake and I love the adrenaline from being scared LOL! I like strange, unique and dark movies, it's always been my genre hahaha. I also love a cute Halloween movie, I know we share a love for Charlie Brown and I love films like Hocus Pocus. I hope you are having a great week and I've missed you, glad you are back! XO -Kim

My hubs is not a fan either so I guess I do not see many in my older years, lol!! Ha! My kids want to see this so I'm showing them your review!! I hope you have a most wonderful day beautiful!!

    1. Hahaha I totally grew up on all those movies and they still scare me! I love them as much as I love seeing a new scary movie! I could probably live with never seeing a new scary movie again, but some of them that come out are so dang scary/interesting looking I can't resist hahaha. You are such a cutie, I hope you have a great day gorgeous and hope your boys like the movie! XO -Kim

  3. I hate scary movies, but a couple of the scenes of this one where shot where I live, so I think I'm going to have to suck it up and go see it! Glad to know it's not too frightening though, that's typically why I don't like horror movies. Thanks for the review, Kim! Happy anniversary to you and your husband!

  4. A lot of my friends have been talking about this movie! I love American Horror Story, it's got such a good storyline, and the 'scary' parts aren't too gory!

    1. I hate to admit it, but I haven't even watched American Horror Story yet even though I KNOW I would love it! I generally only have time to watch tv with the hubs and, obviously, that's not his first pick hahaha. But I WILL get around to it as so many people I know rave about it! Thanks for stopping in gorgeous! XO -Kim

  5. He actually liked it Rainbow! The costumes in this were amazing! I would say be careful in seeing this, it has one particular quite graphic scene so if you are prone to recurring mental images this may get stuck in your head! If you watch it let me know, I'm sure you'll be able to pick out the scene I'm talking about! But this was a great movie! Thanks for stopping in my beautiful friend, hope your weeks been good so far!
